WASHINGTON, DC – Since January 2014, Georgetown University Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) has contracted with Agileana to assist CIED with the information technology program that supports the U.S. Department, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, English Language Programs (ELP).
In July of this year (2022), Georgetown renewed its contract with Agileana for continued support of this program. On behalf of CIED and the State Department, Agileana has built a complex, enterprise-level, web application that assists the ELP with sourcing, recruiting, screening, selecting, and supporting English Language professionals who, in turn, are sent on missions to teach American English around the world.
The diplomatic goal is to have a common understanding among citizens around the world. By using a common, international language, people around the world can have a better understanding of each other’s needs, values, and priorities.
The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) designs and implements educational, professional, and cultural exchange and other programs that create and sustain the mutual understanding with other countries necessary to advancing United States foreign policy goals. ECA programs cultivate people-to-people ties among current and future global leaders that build enduring networks and personal relationships and promote U.S. national security and values.
Since 1969, English Language Programs, funded by the U.S. Department of State, has placed thousands of highly qualified and experienced U.S. educators in the field of TESOL on in-person and virtual projects to assist U.S. Embassies in delivering and maintaining quality English language programs and supporting public diplomacy initiatives.
The English Language Fellow Program began in 1969, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019.
