National Archives Awards Agileana Two Contracts to Redesign the FDR Presidential Library Website and Support NARA's Web Portfolio
Orders with a combined potential value of more than $2.3 million cover a Drupal 11 rebuild of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum website and up to three years of operations and maintenance across more than 50 National Archives websites
BRAMBLETON, Va., September 29, 2026: Agileana Digital Services Inc. announced that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) awarded it two new orders in September 2026. The first is a $398,674.77 firm-fixed-price order to redesign and migrate the website of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. The second is a Web Support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) order with a one-year base period and two 12-month options, valued at up to $1,908,764.64 if all options are exercised.
Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum website
Under the first order, issued through Agileana's NARA Digital Design and Development BPA, Agileana will move the FDR Library's website to NARA's Drupal 11 platform. The current site, fdrlibrary.org, runs on Liferay and is hosted by Marist University. Over a 15-month performance period, Agileana will conduct stakeholder research with Library staff, present design options based on the U.S. Web Design System, and migrate the site's content into the Gutenberg editor using NARA's library of reusable components.
The new site will include a React-based global search powered by OpenSearch, with faceted filtering, "best bets," and indexing of PDFs and other documents. Agileana will also rebuild the Library's interactive features, including its New Deal and World War II "periodic tables" and its databases of Roosevelt speeches and motion pictures. It will connect finding aids to the National Archives Catalog API and add online forms for tours, event space rentals, and research room appointments. Several of these components, including the research appointment scheduler and a featured content block, will be built as portable modules that other Presidential Libraries can reuse.
NARA Web Support Operations and Maintenance
The second order, awarded under Agileana's GSA Multiple Award Schedule contract (GS-35F-395BA), makes Agileana responsible for keeping NARA's public and internal websites secure, current, and available. The portfolio includes Archives.gov, 13 Presidential Library websites, 22 WordPress blogs, the NARA intranet, and the preserved historical websites of the Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden White Houses.
Agileana will provide two dedicated full-time engineers working from a backlog that NARA prioritizes. The team's work covers Drupal and WordPress security updates and version upgrades, new features and enhancements, remediation of accessibility and security scan findings, and around-the-clock response to critical outages. Agileana will also take over management of NARA's Amazon Web Services environment, including server patching, backups, monitoring, database administration, and deployment pipelines. Senior Technical Lead Evan Layton will lead the team. The base period runs from September 27, 2026 through September 26, 2027.
"In 2009, a federal agency told me the government doesn't do open source, especially WordPress or Drupal," said Blake Newman, founder and CEO of Agileana. "Ninety days later, WhiteHouse.gov relaunched on Drupal, in 2017 it relaunched again in WordPress. Today our team is responsible for keeping that era's White House website, along with Archives.gov and the Presidential Library sites, secure and online for the American people. We're grateful for NARA's trust. We take the job of protecting this part of the nation's record seriously."
"The Roosevelt Library holds one of the most significant collections in American history, and its website is how most people will encounter it," Newman added. "Our goal is a site that FDR Library staff can maintain on their own and that makes the collection easier for researchers, students, and visitors to explore."
The awards build on Agileana's work with NARA since 2021 under its Digital Design and Development BPA, which has included projects for Presidential Library websites and has a total contract value exceeding $7,000,000 USD.
